Transportation Research Board Releases New Guidebook
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) recently released a new guidebook entitled Communication Matters: Communicating the Value of Transportation Research, which examines effective ways to communicate transportation research. The publication notes that as research plays a more important role in current transportation debates, communicating the results to the media, government officials and society will also be increasingly important. The guidebook serves as a blueprint to transportation officials, research managers and others in the transportation community for integrating communication.
The guidebook is organized into four chapters which detail signs of good communication practices, the communication process, planning and evaluating research communication and how to communicate to specific audiences. The elements of good communication are detailed in the guide. Throughout the book, different features aid the reader such as tips, summarizations of key points, highlights of case studies, and examples or templates. Also included are two appendices which offer effective transportation case studies as well as non-transportation organizations’ approaches to research communication.
