Ford and GHSA Launch High School Safe Driving Tour
In February, Ford Motor Company Fund and GHSA launched a new 30-city tour that is bringing Ford Driving Skills for Life driving exercises, web-based training and educational materials to at least 30 high schools in 15 states during 2011.
This winter and spring, the program focuses on the Southeastern states. This fall, the focus will be on the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. Ford has invested $1 million into this program to complement other ongoing 2011 activities including support of Illinois’ Operation Teen Safe Driving and a major teen driving summer camp.
The new effort has been well-received by GHSA members. Harris Blackwood, Governor’s Highway Safety Representative for Georgia noted, “We were thrilled the program returned to Georgia. This year’s events helped us continue the life-saving battle against teen crash deaths in our state.” Marianne Trussell, Chief Safety Officer with the Florida Department of Transportation, added, “Events in Tallahassee and Orlando were well-received and complemented our already existing efforts. I encourage my colleagues around the country to support this program as it is a low-effort, high-payoff way to help our young drivers be safer.”
