Youth Distracted Driving Summit to be Held in Washington, D.C.
On October 17, 2011, with funding from AT&T, National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) will host the 2011 Teen Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, D.C. Because NOYS believes effective prevention programs are teen-led and teen-informed, the organization is focused on convening, training, and empowering youth leaders to address the issue of distracted driving. Ten youth teams will be selected throughout an application process to attend and lead the Summit and subsequent year-long efforts. The youth teams will develop, implement, and support distracted driving prevention efforts in their local communities and host a Teen Distracted Driving Prevention Summit in their state. NOYS will contact applicable state highway safety offices to see if there is a role for the youth teams in state distracted driving efforts.
Each youth team will consist of four youth and an adult advisor. Youth teams will be required to attend the summit and commit to organizing and hosting a summit in their home state. Travel funding for the October meeting will be provided, as well as a grant to support the state summits.
More information about the Summit is online at www.noys.org.
