Melissa W. Wandall was recognized by GHSA for raising awareness of the dangers of red-light running and successfully advocating for legislation to address it. After her husband was killed and her brother was severely injured by a driver who ran a red light, Wandall turned the tragedy into an opportunity to serve and uplift those in need. She was a powerful force behind the passage of Florida’s Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act, which permitted red light cameras in the state. She also founded the Mark Wandall Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating support for children in grief. Wandall currently serves as President of the National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) and is a nationally recognized spokesperson and ambassador for safer streets.
