Pedestrian traffic deaths have steadily increased since 2009 and spiked during the pandemic. While the death rate for the first half of 2023 decreased YoY, it remains elevated from pre-pandemic levels. One reason deaths remain relatively high is the steep decline in traffic enforcement since 2020.
