Pam Fischer and Joe Feese Join Growing Organization
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) today announced that it has added two senior-level staff to its D.C.-based headquarters: Pam Shadel Fischer, Senior Director of External Engagement & Special Projects, and Joe Feese, Director of Communications. Feese joined GHSA on Nov. 6, and Fischer officially joins the team full time on Jan. 6.
Fischer is one of the nation’s preeminent experts on behavioral safety. She is the former Governor’s Representative and Highway Safety Director for New Jersey, and she held an executive-level role with AAA New Jersey for more than two decades. Since 2011, Fischer has run her own consulting firm, completing numerous projects for GHSA and other clients. For GHSA, Fischer has authored nine reports on a variety of highway safety topics, including pedestrian and bicyclist safety as well as teen, distracted and drowsy driving. She is also the co-author of the second edition of “Not So Fast: Parenting Your Teen Through the Dangers of Driving.” Since 2011, she has served as Program Coordinator for the Lifesavers National Conference on Highway Safety Priorities, the largest-attended highway safety conference in the nation.
In her new position at GHSA, Fischer will manage many of the association’s key partnerships and external engagements. She will also oversee GHSA’s Consulting Services Initiative, which provides program and management assistance to GHSA’s state members. Additionally, through public speaking engagements, implementation of unique partnerships and other outreach, Fischer will work to bring new national visibility to the issue of highway safety.
As GHSA’s new Director of Communications, Joe Feese will manage print and digital publications, website content, media relations, social media and the development of all promotional materials and presentations. A journalist, writer and former public relations senior executive, Feese has more than 20 years’ experience managing broad-based corporate and nonprofit communications campaigns in both Seattle and Washington, D.C. His expertise spans the spectrum of integrated communications, including brand storytelling, public relations, crisis management, executive communications, content development, creative design, and meetings and event promotion.
Prior to joining GHSA, Feese was Director of Communications for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), a 50,000-member professional association with a $50 million budget. At ASHP, Feese oversaw a diverse team managing all aspects of strategic communications, including branding, public relations, issue advocacy and digital strategy.
“I am delighted to welcome Pam and Joe to the GHSA team,” said GHSA Executive Director Jonathan Adkins. “As GHSA continues to grow, these new staff roles will help to provide states with the resources and tools they need to continue reducing and eventually eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries.”
