Jonathan Adkins, GHSA Executive Director
Jonathan Adkins was named Executive Director of the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) in 2014. GHSA is the national nonprofit that represents state highway safety agencies. GHSA members are charged with implementing their governors’ highway safety plans and administering federal behavioral highway safety funds.
Adkins is responsible for directing the organization’s Washington Headquarters office, serving as the association’s chief liaison with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other federal agencies, as well as representing the organization on Capitol Hill and with private sector partners. He frequently represents the states’ viewpoints on highway safety solutions in the media and before Congress, federal agencies and industry partners. Adkins is regularly quoted by a variety of publications, including Politico, USA TODAY and The Washington Post.
Adkins manages GHSA’s relationships with key private sector partners, including Ford Motor Company Fund, The Allstate Foundation and State Farm. For the past eleven years, he has led GHSA’s partnership in the award-winning teen driving program Ford Driving Skills for Life. He has overseen multiple projects with State Farm focusing on teen driving, distracted driving and multicultural outreach.
Adkins’ tenure with GHSA began in 2000. Prior to being named Executive Director, Adkins served as GHSA’s Communications Director and most recently as Deputy Executive Director.
Adkins holds a political science degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In his free time, he serves as President of his 170-unit condominium’s Board of Directors and volunteers for multiple organizations, including Dickinson College and West Virginia University.
