Summary

The assistant to the state highway safety and traffic engineer is responsible for leading highway safety and traffic program planning and coordination, federal programs, and contract processes; assists in setting the direction for the division and acts as director in the director's absence. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Guides the development and implementation of highway safety and traffic strategic plans, statewide direction, policy, programs, and initiatives.
  • Leads highway safety and traffic division staff in administering programs that are innovative, efficient, and effective.
  • Supports MoDOT district and division teams through collaborative partnerships, technical assistance, and general guidance.
  • Represents the department to external agencies and customers, including local, state, and federal agencies, policymakers, and media outlets on highway safety and traffic programs and initiatives.
  • Identifies and implements best practices for highway safety and traffic by working with other states, national organizations, and industry stakeholders.
