New staff at traffic safety nonprofit will focus on federal relations, educational opportunities for members
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) today announced the addition of two new staff members to its Washington, D.C.-based leadership team: Daniel Zimmerman, Senior Director of Government Relations and Policy; and Amadie Hart, Director of Member Education.
Zimmerman has a proven track record of transportation safety policy development and advocacy. He joins GHSA from Boundary Stone Partners, a federal government affairs firm, where he worked with a wide range of transportation nonprofits and companies to advance their policy priorities in fields including traffic safety. Prior to that, Zimmerman specialized in commercial motor vehicle safety policy in his role at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), where he worked closely with the U.S. Department of Transportation and Congress. Zimmerman has a wealth of experience collaborating with numerous government agencies and nonprofits to support safety-focused outcomes in legislative and regulatory initiatives.
At GHSA, Zimmerman will represent State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) before federal agencies and Congress to shape national transportation policy, assist states as they work to address roadway safety issues and improve the delivery of federal and state safety programs. He will also work closely with a range of partner organizations to improve road safety and promote GHSA objectives.
Hart has 30 years of experience working at and with associations and nonprofits, building and enhancing member-focused programs and strategic online marketing plans. Prior to joining GHSA, Amadie provided communications and marketing consulting to nonprofits and managed the logistics and planning of GHSA’s Annual Meeting, which saw record attendance in 2023. She also previously served as online campaigns and marketing director for an Arlington, Virginia-based web design and development firm, where she led projects for numerous national associations and nonprofits.
In her position at GHSA, Hart will be responsible for expanding and improving the association’s professional development and training programs for SHSO and Associate Members, including the Annual Meeting, Executive Seminar on Program Management and the Emerging Leaders in Highway Safety Seminar.
GHSA CEO Jonathan Adkins said, “This is a pivotal time in traffic safety that requires effective leaders and creative approaches. Both Daniel and Amadie bring exceptional experience and a proven history of success that will help GHSA meet today’s challenges and leverage new opportunities as we work toward zero fatalities on our nation’s roadways.”
