Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can prevent crashes and save lives, but many drivers do not understand how these technologies work or how to use them safely. As ADAS features become more common across vehicle models, the need for clear, accurate consumer education has grown. States and safety partners need tools to deliver effective outreach and training.
Evaluating and Delivering Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Education: A Guide, assesses what drivers currently understand about Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), identifies groups that need additional education, and recommends effective ways to deliver that information. Published in January 2026 as BTSCRP Research Report 26, provides practical guidance for identifying, creating and modifying ADAS materials to support specific education and training goals. It is supported by BTSCRP Web‑Only Document 9: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Education and Outreach, which offers tools, strategies and processes for delivering ADAS education.
The report provides guidance to help agencies and practitioners evaluate, develop, and refine ADAS education materials that align with specific learning goals. It also outlines approaches for reaching priority audiences and improving the clarity and usefulness of consumer information.
The resulting guidelines support SHSOs and their partners in making informed, data‑driven decisions about media planning, resource allocation and campaign design to improve the effectiveness of traffic safety messaging.
