The California Office of Traffic Safety is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator.

Overview

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, Communications and Public Affairs (CEA), and lead of the Public Affairs Manager (Information Officer II), the Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) is a highly skilled, nonsupervisory Department specialist on community engagement and public participation for the OTS Communications and Public Affairs Division.

The incumbent is responsible for establishing, delivering, and supporting community engagement programs to foster and enhance civic participation that informs OTS planning policies and public affairs programs that best meet the needs of the state, and achieve community traffic safety benefits consistent with the OTS Public Participation and Engagement Plan, Equity Action Plan, Triennial Highway Safety Plan, and strategic management goals.

The incumbent provides organizational support by establishing and building relationships with community-based organizations, business coalitions, traffic safety advocacy groups, and other local, regional, and state agencies to engage with impacted communities early and often about OTS initiatives and programs. This includes planning and developing engagement strategies for public involvement with a special focus on historically underrepresented stakeholders at specific and key points of the highway safety planning process. The incumbent will collaborate regularly with OTS Executive staff and the OTS Program Planning and Grant Operations Division.
