Job Summary
This position is located in the District of Columbia's Highway Safety Office (HSO) within the Office of the City Administrator with funding from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). The HSO works to reduce roadway fatalities, injuries, and crashes on all roadways throughout the District. Through grant management, community engagement, and public education campaigns, the HSO supports the Mayor’s goal of Vision Zero, the goal of eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways.
The position will lead program management and evaluation of Project Safe Child, a multi-agency effort to increase car seat installation and caregiver knowledge of transportation safety for children. The position will lead efforts to increase seat belt usage rates across all eight wards of the District and to decrease the number of distracted drivers on our roadways. The position will require frequent travel within the District to conduct presentations, host community events, provide technical support to partners, and engage community members in outreach and education.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent serves as a transportation management specialist for the Department of Transportation in the Transit Delivery Division of the Project Delivery Administration, responsible for formulating plans and policies that pertain to the development of transportation systems for the District of Columbia. Emphasis is on a multi-modal comprehensive approach balancing public sector needs and private sector needs into a coordinated District Transportation policy. Develops multi-modal transportation plans and projects for the preservation of transportation systems and facilities. These plans will provide the basis for investment of District and federal resources through the establishment of long-range policy objective and a near term investment programs. Incumbent establishes liaison and maintains coordination with government entities, the private sector, and with citizens of the District through the Advisory Neighborhood Commission and by other means necessary collect and analyze data on land use, economic, social, environmental, energy effects, and will develop and analyze a range of alternatives for the efficient utilization transportation services.
The incumbent prepares written reports and makes oral presentations. Serves as principal liaison between public and private sectors and community and neighborhood groups. Evaluates public support for project plans and develops public communication approaches to inform neighborhood group of proposed transportation policies and plans.
