GHSA projects drivers struck and killed 6,732 people walking in the United States in 2025, down 7% from the year before – the third straight annual decrease. Despite this progress, pedestrian deaths remain 5% above the pre-pandemic level.

Drivers struck and killed 6,732 people walking in 2025, an average of 18 per day, according to a new data analysis from GHSA. That is a 7% decline from the year before but still 5% higher than the pre-pandemic 2019 level.
