Williams brings more than 30 years of experience in communications, media, advocacy and nonprofit management to GHSA’s roadway safety efforts
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) has expanded its senior leadership team with the addition of Mantill Williams as its first ever Chief Communications Officer. Williams, who started working at the association’s Washington, D.C. headquarters earlier this week, will oversee GHSA’s external and internal communications initiatives across a range of roadway safety topics.
An award-winning association executive, Williams has more than three decades of experience in public relations, digital media, advocacy outreach, marketing and advertising. He has served as a spokesperson and secured media placements for staff and volunteer leaders in a wide range of national media outlets, including ABC, CBS, CNN, PBS, National Public Radio, Bloomberg Radio, CNBC Radio, CBS News Radio, the Associated Press, the Washington Post, the New York Times, Fortune, the Wall Street Journal, Time and more.
Prior to joining GHSA, Williams was Vice President of Public Relations and Communication Strategy at the National Association of Realtors, the nation’s largest trade association. Before NAR, Williams spent 12 years as Director of Advocacy Communications for the American Public Transportation Association, where he led public relations, grassroots outreach, and advertising campaigns.
Earlier in his career, Williams served as National Director of Public Relations and spokesperson for AAA on traffic safety and travel issues. He also held leadership roles at the American Trucking Associations Safety Management Council.
Williams joins GHSA at an incredibly important but challenging time in roadway safety. More than 39,000 people died on U.S. roads in 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently reported. Although that’s down 3.8% from the year before, it’s up 20.2% from 2014. GHSA and its members – comprised of State and Territorial Highway Safety Offices and nearly 200 companies and nonprofit Associate Members – remain focused on advancing policies and programs that reduce roadway crashes, deaths and injuries.
“I’m excited to welcome Mantill to the GHSA team and look forward to seeing the impact he can make,” said CEO Jonathan Adkins. “His experience, expertise and fresh thinking will help propel our outreach and communications efforts to the next level.”
